Bob Odenkirk recalled creating the iconic Matt Foley character alone in his Chicago apartment on Wednesday's episode of "The View."

Chris Farley played Foley, a clumsy motivational speaker, in a series of "Saturday Night Live" sketches in the '90s. Farley and Odenkirk, who grew up in Naperville, trained together at Second City.

"It was a dream to be a part of that theater," Odenkirk said. "And Farley was in the cast and he had done a voice like that in an improv sketch. He was like a coach, you know, 'Come on kids, let's go!' And it was just a go-to voice for him. And I went and wrote this thing about a guy living in his van down by the river and he just killed it every night. It was an amazing thing to see."

Farley died in Chicago in 1997 at the age of 33. Odenkirk stars in the new Netflix film "Girlfriend's Day." His AMC network series "Better Call Saul" is scheduled to return 9 p.m. April 10 for its third season.
