Jean Castex, confirmed on Wednesday that wearing a mask would be made compulsory in the "businesses and places open to the public" ended no later than the 1st of August, in an interview with readers of the Parisian.

The assumption of such an obligation had been advanced on Tuesday by Emmanuel Macron, referring to "for example" the date of 1 August. "If there was before this date that the epidemic took, we would argue this deadline but this is not worth the trouble of distressing the population," said the Prime minister.
