Trial Intradel-Uvelia: Alain Mathot denies the charges made against him

The tribunal correctionnel de Liège has started on Thursday a review of the file of Alain Mathot, continued for facts of corruption in the framework of the construction of the waste incinerator Uvelia in Herstal. Alain Mathot has been questioned for three hours and denied the charges made against him. Twelve defendants had already been judged. Eleven convictions had been upheld by the court of appeal, with penalties ranging up to a maximum of 2 years suspended prison sentence. Unlike the other defendants, Alain Mathot had not been returned to the criminal court because his parliamentary immunity had not been waived, and the proceedings against him had been suspended. Since he retired from his activities in politics, the prosecutor's office had restarted the process and got his referral to the court.
