SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County has released its findings of the county's response to an explosion and fire at an apartment complex that killed seven people last August.

News outlets report that the county council was briefed Tuesday on the results of the internal review. It gave officials generally high marks, but also found a few areas to improve, mostly dealing with communications.

The audit found that there was not enough Spanish-speaking staff to assist victims both at the scene of the Aug. 10 explosion at the Flower Branch apartments in Silver Spring and at an emergency shelter.

Among the 14 recommendations in the audit are ways the county can bolster communications between county agencies, survivors and response partners.

Investigators have said a buildup of natural gas caused the explosion.
