Boulder weather: Red flag warning in place today but snow and rain possible by Wednesday

Boulder will be under a red flag warning today as the forecast calls for high temperatures and strong winds that have already helped fuel several fires along the Front Range, but could see snow and rain by Wednesday night.

Today's forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of 73 and winds 28 to 33 mph and gusts of up to 50 mph. The National Center for Atmospheric Research already recorded a 71.4 mph gust at 2:50 a.m. today.

Boulder County will be under a red flag warning from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, which means the conditions will create a critical fire danger.Advertisement Crews are currently battling a 75-acre Rabbit Mountain Fire and also responded to a 30-acre grass fire southeast of Longmont on Monday.

Fire crews will get some relief by Wednesday, as the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 65 and winds 11 to 17 mph with gusts as high as 26 mph. The overnight low is expected to be near 31 with a 40 percent chance of rain and snow.

Thursday's forecast calls for cloudy skies with a 60 percent chance of snow. The overnight low is expected to be near 37.
