BRUNSWICK --- The Brunswick Optimist Club's 25th Annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser Feb. 18 raised $1,500 and brought more people than ever before, club president, Tim Smith, said.

"We had our best attendance ever," Smith said of the event, which featured a magic show and balloon animal making by Nate the Great, face painting, crafts and kids games.

"Our goal is 'bringing out the best in kids' and it looks like they all had a wonderful time," Smith said. "Our positive approach, our upbeat outlook, and our commitment to creating a more optimistic future for kids is what makes us different from any other volunteer groups."

Smith added the community's support of the 25-member Optimist Club has also been a constant.

"We always get great support from our community, especially our community events - like our fishing derby which gets about 200 people," he said. "And we have our 'cancer banks' around the city. If we find our there is a child who has cancer, we write them a check to help with expenses."

Upcoming events include the club's annual fishing derby at North Park in May, and its oratory contest.
