Cause of death undetermined for Denver man whose remains were found at Eldora ski resort

The Boulder County Coroner's Office announced Thursday that it has ruled the cause and manner of death of a man whose remains were discovered near Eldora Mountain Resort last year as undetermined.

In a news release, the coroner's office said that after examining 83-year-old Ervin Mettler's remains, it determined that the cause and manner of his death was best left undetermined.

Mettler's skeletal remains — including a foot in a boot — were found in two locations near the Nederland-area ski resort last summer. The remains had likely been in those locations for several months based on their conditions.

Mettler was a Denver resident, and a friend attempted to report him missing to Denver authorities, but no report was taken because a family member did not report him missing.
