CU regents meet in closed-door session again, but Joe Tumpkin report still weeks away

DENVER — A report on the external investigation into the Boulder campus's handling of domestic violence allegations against a former assistant football coach is likely to take a few more weeks before it's finished, an official said Thursday after a meeting of the University of Colorado's Board of Regents.

A May 17 "holder for possible special board meeting" is listed on the Board of Regents website, but CU spokesman Ken McConnellogue said he was unsure whether the report regarding allegations against former safeties coach Joe Tumpkin would be finished by then.

The board held an executive session from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. It is not clear what was discussed during that time.

The regents issued a public statement following a seven-hour executive session last month, confirming they had heard from the attorneys investigating the situation. That is when regents said the lawyers were preparing a report that eventually will be released to the public.

Philadelphia-based law firm Cozen O'Connor — which also investigated Baylor University — was contracted by the school to review whether Chancellor Phil DiStefano, Athletic Director Rick George and CU football coach Mike MacIntyre violated campus policies by failing to report the accusations made by Tumpkin's ex-girlfriend of three years.

She said Tumpkin repeatedly and violently abused her during their relationship.

Tumpkin, who was ordered to resign his position at CU, has been charged with five felony counts of second-degree assault.
