CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio - If you'd like to buy or sell old furniture or kids clothes off Facebook or craigslist, but you're worried about who's on the other end of the purchase, the city of Cuyahoga Falls has you covered.

Mayor Don Walters designated the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department an Internet Purchase Exchange Location to reduce incidences of crime during in-person transactions.

Across the country, other police stations are also volunteering to be a safe space. Avon Lake and Lorain, for example, have similar programs.

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the police department lobby is a safe zone for anyone meeting a stranger face-to-face to complete an online purchase. The lobby is available at any time, with no appointment necessary, and provides recorded video and audio surveillance.

The city suggests that shoppers who feel uneasy about a transaction call ahead to alert the department using the non emergency number, 330-928-2181.

Sales of alcohol, drugs, weapons, motor vehicles, boats or other large equipment aren't allowed.

The Internet Purchase Exchange is located at City Hall, 2310 Second St., in the police department's entrance on the Oakwood Drive side of the building.
