Four youths arrested after attacking man: Cleveland Heights police blotter

Assault, Coventry Road: Just before 10 p.m. Feb. 12, police were called to Hampshire Road on a report of several suspicious males walking as if they were casing the area in advance of committing a crime.

As police neared, a resident told officers a group of juveniles assaulted a male, grabbed his phone, and ran. The victim chased the suspects.

Police found the suspects and eventually apprehended four of the seven or eight who took part in the crime.

The victim told police he was walking on Coventry Road when the youths approached and one of the youths hit him in the neck. No property was stolen.

The suspects were charged with assault and with curfew violations. The mothers of two of the suspects were issued civil liability penalties because their children violated curfew laws.

Damage to auto, Noble Road: On the evening of Feb. 14, a woman called police to report damage to her car. The car had been parked for about a month in a lot, during which time the woman hadn't looked closely at the auto.

When she returned she found there were several bullet holes in the car -- two in the trunk, and one that ricocheted off the trunk and broke the rear window.

Aggravated attempted robbery, Kingston Road: A teen boy agreed to sell headphones to a friend who did not initially have the money to pay for them. The seller later arranged to meet with his friend and get the money.

A meeting was set for the late afternoon of Feb. 12 at Canterbury Elementary School. As the seller waited, he received a message from his friend stating that someone else would be there to give him his money.

That other person arrived shortly after and, instead of giving the seller money, he demanded his cell phone then threatened the seller by brandishing a hatchet. The seller ran.

Police investigated and ended up arresting the seller's friend, 16, and the boy he sent to collect the money.

Grand theft, Mayfield Road: At 12:45 a.m. Feb. 11, a woman reported that while she was at the Rise Lounge, 3560 Mayfield Road, she set her car keys on the bar. A short time later, the woman noticed the keys missing and went into the parking to find her car gone.

Domestic violence, Severance Circle: At 12:30 p.m. Feb. 9, police were called to an apartment where a woman told officers that she has been in recent times the victim of domestic violence at the hands of her live-in boyfriend, 47.

The woman said that she was attempting to discuss with her boyfriend on Feb. 9 his violence toward her when the man became mad. She then told the man that she was going to go to the police station to report the crimes against her.

The man would not allow the woman to get dressed, picked her up by her shirt, then threw her on a bed causing her to hit her head on a table.

The man said he would not allow the woman to leave, but she eventually was able to do so. The man told police he had not harmed the woman.

Police charged the man with domestic violence and kidnapping.

Theft, South Taylor Road: At 9:15 a.m. Feb. 9, police were called to the Family Dollar store, 1915 S. Taylor Road.

There, the store manager told police two men left the store, one with brake fluid, and the other with a container of milk and Oreo cookies, for which they did not pay. The man with the cookies did stop to pay for two pastry items.

As the manager went in the lot to ask the men to return the stolen items, they ignored her and drove off.

Police stopped the car and arrested the men, both 21. One of the men initially gave police false information, then was later found to be wanted on a warrant issued by Euclid police.

Receiving stolen property, Noble Road: At 2:05 a.m Feb. 9, an officer was at the scene of a car crash when one of the involved drivers ran from the scene. The driver was caught and, found in his jacket pocket was a handgun, which was reported stolen out of Belmont County, Ohio, and a bag of heroin.

The man was charged with receiving stolen property, carrying a concealed weapon and drug possession.

OVI, Noble Road: At 3:45 a.m. Feb. 11, two cars were involved in a minor accident at an intersection. Police found that one of the drivers, a woman, 28, was drunk.

Inside the car, officers found two open containers of alcohol and a partially smoked marijuana cigarette. The woman was cited for OVI, having an open container of alcohol in the car, and drug possession.

Aggravated menacing, Greyton Road: At 12:15 a.m. Feb. 11, a woman informed police that her former boyfriend came to her home with a baseball bat and threatened to damage her car. The man said he was upset because the woman would not speak with him that night.

After an argument, the man left, only to return a short time later. This time, the man was able to unlock the home's door. Inside the house, the man took out a gun and held it to the woman's neck. Again, the woman was not harmed.

The woman did not choose to sign protection order paperwork.
