Grants to ‘sanctuary cities’ to be suspended on case-by-case basis

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly told lawmakers on Tuesday that federal grants given to “sanctuary cities” such as the Big Apple for their police departments would be suspended on a case-by-case basis.

Mayor de Blasio has said New York would not change its policy regarding undocumented immigrants despite President Trump’s threat to withhold some federal funding from sanctuary cities.

Kelly, testifying before the House Homeland Security Committee, also voiced support for President Trump’s travel ban and the Mexican border wall.

Sanctuary cities in general do not cooperate with federal immigration authorities in enforcing federal immigration laws.
