AKRON, Ohio - Popular magazine Hi-Fructose has filled its pages with contemporary art since 2005. The newest exhibit at Akron Art Museum, 1 High St., "Turn the Page: The First Ten Years of Hi-Fructose," will celebrate the quarterly's decade of showcasing bold, innovative artwork that pushes the boundaries.

"Turn the Page" opens with a reception 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10. Organized by the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Akron will be the second stop on the touring show. It runs through May 7 before heading to the Crocker Art Museum of Sacramento, CA, in June.

The show includes more than 50 artists whose mediums span sculpture, video, oil paintings and more. Works draw inspiration from just as wide-ranging of a pool, from pop culture to politics.

Friday's opening reception will feature a performance by New York City-based Olek, an experimental musician and artist who is featured in the exhibit. She'll be bringing a number of wearable crochet suits, which she refers to as sculptures, which will be worn by Akron locals during a public performance.

Event are planned throughout the exhibit's run.

Storytelling. A free storytelling workshop hosted by Wandering Aesthetics will ask participants to take their cues from the Hi-Fructose art. March 30, 6:30 p.m. More details.

Gallery sketching session. Phil Guy, the artist and illustrator who also goes by Burrito Breath, will lead a Hi-Fructose-inspired sketch meet-up. Guy is known for his skate decks, stickers and T-shirt designs. April 6; 6:30 p.m. More details.

Artist talk. Montana-based artist Beth Cavener, known for her evocative animal and human figures, will be at the museum for an artist talk and Q & A session. She'll speak on her approach to elements of gesture and expression. April 27; 6:30 p.m. More details.
