Some people think the best part of the Super Bowl is the commercials. This year, Kourtney Lynn Myers was certainly one of those people.

Myers was watching the game with her boyfriend, Chris Gargulio, and a few friends in upstate New York. She was surprised to see her boyfriend pop up in a commercial just before halftime — and was even more surprised when he asked her to marry him on TV.

“Finding that person you’re supposed to be with is possible,” he says in the commercial. “That person has always been you. Kourtney Lynn Myers, will you marry me?”

Gargulio then got down on one knee and showed her the ring he picked out.

“I was like, ‘Why are you on TV when you’re sitting right next to me?'” Myers told ABC News. “The commercial was really quick and then he got down on one knee. I was so happy and I was in shock. I didn’t know it was coming.”

Gargulio entered a contest called ‘Surprise Super Bowl Commercial’ while shopping for the ring at Northeastern Fine Jewelers in Schenectady. A week before the Super Bowl, he was announced as the winner and went back to the jewelry store to film the tape.

“They said, ‘You’re going to have 10 seconds to say what you want to say.’ I memorized it,” Gargulio said.

Myers happily accepted his proposal.

Gargulio and Myers dated for five years before the proposal, having met while attending separate colleges in Potsdam. They plan to tie the knot in the summer of 2018, according to ABC News.
