A female pedestrian is dead after being struck by a car in Markham on Saturday night.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Steeles Ave. and McCowan Rd. at about 11:30 p.m.

York Regional Police say a 25-year-old woman killed was struck while crossing the road near the intersection.

She was transported to hospital, where she later died.

The driver remained at the scene. Police have not yet confirmed whether the driver will face charges at this time.

Police are asking for anyone in the area who may possess dashcam footage or who may have witnessed the collision to contact them at 416-764-1900.
