Prosperity Social Club's popular Friday fish fry to return

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Clevelanders know Prosperity Social Club has one of the best fish fries in town.

Now the whole world knows.

The Old World Tremont bar-restaurant was featured on the Travel Channel's "Delicious Destinations" show in November.

The episode hooked even more Clevelanders on the delicious fish fry, which Prosperity is just about to begin again for the Lenten season, on Fridays March 3 through April 14.

"The Travel Channel episode seems to have had a large, positive impact on our business," says owner Bonnie Flinner. "We are seeing many new faces, many people commenting that they saw us on the show or stopping me in the dining room to say they saw me on TV.  It is really fun.  Folks from Akron and suburbs coming in and saying they saw the episode -- which is great because I think Prosperity really represents Cleveland well and is an excellent destination venue for visitors."

This years fish fry menu at the 1938-built Tremont watering hole will be offered at both lunch and dinner time - and all the way until 2 a.m. -- on Fridays. (Late night fish fry, anyone?)

It includes the home-cooked 'Big Fish' classic fry, featured on the show, with beer-battered flaky haddock complemented by crunchy homemade coleslaw, zesty house tartar sauce and rich, creamy old-school-style mac and cheese.

Diners who want a lighter midday meal can order a cup of made-from-scratch New England clam chowder, a pan-seared tilapia dressed in chimichurri sauce, or the more modest two-piece slaw-and-chips "Minnow" fry. Prosperity chef Ed Kubitz is adding a lemony shrimp piccata pasta to the list of fish fry-day of offerings.

There is also the 'Gotta Haddock' special: hearty hand-battered haddock with mac and cheese, a side of slaw, a cup of chowder and two potato pierogi slathered in caramelized onions and topped with a dollop of sour cream.

Prices are: Cup of Clam Chowder - $4; Minnow Fry - $11; Big Fry - $14; Gotta Haddock Fry - $22.

Fish fry days are first come, first served. Due to fish fry volume some, regular fried menu items are not available on Fridays.
