CLEVELAND, Ohio -- For those familiar with the new Fox music drama, "Star," it's not out of the ordinary for a serious and emotional scene to turn on a dime and become a full-on musical number.
In "Gooder," actor Miss Lawrence momentarily breaks into song in Carlotta's beauty shop before Queen Latifah takes over.
Sporting a massive crimped ponytail and an orange T-shirt with an image of a black woman with cornrows adorned with Kente cloth, along with the words "The First Queen," Latifah returns to her rhyming roots in the high-energy, two-minute fantasy number.
Since the show's premiere – the Feb. 15 episode is No. 8 – Latifah has performed a number of songs, but "Gooder" marks her first time rapping on the show.
"Star" airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
