PARMA, Ohio - The official opening of the Vista Springs Greenbriar senior care facility at the Shoppes at Parma was Feb. 15, with politicians and healthcare providers in attendance.

The new facility on Day Drive has 24 memory care rooms as well as 63 assisted or catered living rooms.

Vista Springs Greenbriar is hosting a free educational workshop about the VA Aid and Attendance benefit at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 23. This event is open to the public. Call 440-340-4000 to register.

There are 9.2 million veterans still living that served in World War II, Korea or Vietnam. They and their surviving spouses may be eligible for the Department of Veterans' Affairs Aid and Attendance Pension, which offers a monthly tax-free benefit, ranging from $1,153 to $2,127 per month.

Ash Wednesday: The Knights of Columbus, LaFayette Council, is sponsoring an Ash Wednesday Parish Dinner from 4-7 p.m. March 1ednesday,  March 1, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at the St. Michael school hall located at 6906 Chestnut Road, Independence.

A theology seminarian at St. Mary Seminary, will speak about his call and journey toward the priesthood in a modern world. Proceeds will go to sponsor a seminarian and support vocations in the Diocese of Cleveland.

The dinner of potato pancakes, cabbage and noodles, macaroni and cheese, and applesauce will cost $8 for adults and $5 for children. Desserts and carry-out will be available.

Reminder: The Parma Partners In Education are sponsoring a pierogi dinner from 3-7 p.m. March 3 at the Parma Senior High School Cafeteria. A fish and pierogi dinner is $10, and a pierogi dinner is $8. Carry-out is available. Advance sale only.

The Normandy High School Sword & Shield restaurant staff will be doing the cooking, and there will be entertainment by Parma City School District students.

PACC Gala: The Parma Area Chamber of Commerce is having its 2017 Gala from 5:30-10:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Copper Stone Catering and Event Center, 4630 Ridge Road, Brooklyn.

The 2017 Pride Awards will be given to Rosemary Gulick, board member of the PCSD, and the Shoppes at Parma as "Business of the Year." Special Recognition will be given to Fratello's Pizza.

Tickets are $80 per person and $150 a couple. Music will be provided by the Modern Day Rat Pack.
