The second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, announced this Tuesday that the Labor and Social Security Inspection will investigate the death of two workers at a construction site that was being carried out in Madrid.

Díaz, in statements to La Sexta reported by Europa Press, has shown his condolences to the families of the two deceased workers and has indicated that the Inspection will investigate the circumstances of this fatal work accident.

According to what Madrid Emergency sources have informed Europa Press, two construction workers were trapped this Tuesday morning when a slab weighing about eight tons collapsed on the top floor of a building under construction in the district of Fuencarral, while A third worker is injured with fractures in both legs.

The events occurred around 11:15 a.m. in a building under construction located on Lezama Street and Llodio Street, near Cardenal Herrera Oria Avenue.

For reasons that are being investigated, the floor of the top floor has collapsed, a concrete slab weighing about eight tons, and has fallen on another floor of the lower floor, this one weighing about two tons.

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has stated that the two workers trapped in the building under construction whose floor has collapsed "it is very difficult" for them to be alive when an eight-tonne slab falls on them.

As the mayor explained from the scene, "unfortunately everything indicates that two people have died as a result of the collapse of this forging."

According to the construction manager, after having made a count of the personnel working on the rehabilitation of the property, the building is empty and only these two construction workers would be trapped.
