1 dead, 8 wounded, including Cook County officer, in Chicago shootings

A man was killed and eight other people including an off-duty Cook County correctional officer have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday afternoon, police said.

The Cook County sheriff's deputy was shot at about 8:35 p.m. in the 7300 block of South Aberdeen Street, police said. He was shot in the leg and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.

The fatal attack happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Van Buren Street in Austin, police said. A 33-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle when a silver sedan pulled up and someone fired shots, striking him multiple times in the body. He was taken in serious condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Other shootings:

At 11 p.m., two women were shot in Park Manor. They were on the corner of 71st Street and South Rhodes Avenue when someone fired shots from a nearby vehicle and both were hit. A 36-year-old woman was shot in the stomach and both legs and was listed in critical condition. An 18-year-old woman was shot in the right leg and her condition was stabilized. Both women were being treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

About 10:30 p.m., a man was shot on the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to Illinois State Police. He walked in to Saint Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and told investigators he had been shot on the expressway near 43rd Street in the northbound local lanes. He later was transferred to Stroger Hospital for treatment. Police closed the inbound lanes from 43rd to 47th streets for about two hours and recovered one shell casing. The man's exact age was not immediately available.

At 10 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the Wrightwood neighborhood on the Southwest Side. He was walking north in the 7900 block of South Talman Avenue when someone fired shots from a silver car and he was shot in the arm. He went to Holy Cross Hospital and his condition was stabilized.

At 9:15 p.m., a 43-year-old man was shot in the stomach in the South Austin neighborhood. Officers found him with a gunshot wound near the intersection of Division Street and Lawler Avenue. The man would not tell police what happened and was being uncooperative with the investigation, authorities said. He went to Mount Sinai Hospital and his condition was stabilized.

Just before 8:55 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in the chest in the 9800 block of South Oglesby Avenue. He went to Advocate Christ Medical Center and his condition was stabilized. Police did not provide information about the circumstances of the shooting.

About 3:55 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot and critically wounded in the West Lawn neighborhood. He was a passenger in a vehicle in the 6600 block of South Springfield Avenue when someone shot him multiple times in the head and chest. The driver took him to Holy Cross Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Police said he was expected to be transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital. 

No one was in custody and police were investigating.
