2 charged in gunfire reported at Atlantic City school, police say

ATLANTIC CITY -- A 16-year-old and 19-year-old were arrested in connection with a report of shots fired on the grounds of the Uptown School Complex earlier this month.

Police responded on Feb. 3 to the school located off Madison Avenue and reportedly found "evidence of shots being fired." Authorities said that school wasn't in session at the time of the shooting and no one was injured as a result of the gunfire.

The investigation, which was turned over to the police department's violent crimes detectives, concluded by Friday after both were arrested.

The 16-year-old Atlantic City teen was on home detention and subject to an electronic monitoring bracelet at the time of the shooting, police said. He was arrested Thursday and sent to the Harborfields Detention Facility, in Egg Harbor City.

The teen, whose identity wasn't released because of his age, is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon on the grounds of an educational institution and conspiracy.

Darren Nedrick, 19, of Atlantic City, was arrested Friday at Harrah's hotel and casino and sent to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

He's charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon on the grounds of an educational institution and conspiracy.
