Glory Amsterdam : Havarierter Freighter Floats again

Salvage experts have taken the 34; Glory Amsterdam 34; again in deep water. The freighter, who had run aground before Langeoog, has 1,800 tonnes of heavy fuel on board.

Almost four days, Glory Amsterdam was on a sandbank in front of East island of Langeoog, now it floats free again. A tow attempt on Thursday morning was successful, maritime in Cuxhaven shared – freighter is secured.

On Sunday evening storm had torn ship in German bay. With a faulty steering system, Glory Amsterdam was running two kilometers before Langeoog on ground. The bulk carrier was not loaded, but has around 1,800 tonnes of heavy fuel oil and 140 tonnes of marine diesel in its tanks. A planned salvage attempt on Monday evening had been postponed due to insufficient water depth.

On Wednesday evening salvage experts of Havariekommandos made a linen connection to Glory Amsterdam and started to pump out 16,000 tonnes of ballast water. Thus draught of 225 meter long freighter could be reduced. At 7.15 o'clock, two tugs could pull ship back into deep water. Now three tugs will bring glory Amsterdam to Wilhelmshaven port, where it is expected in afternoon.

A technical check on board showed that no pollutants were emitted during towing process, maritime known. The 22 persons of ship's crew are intact, hull has no damage.
