6 sought in assault, robbery of pizza delivery driver

BRIDGETON -- Police are looking for six people in connection with the assault and robbery of a pizza delivery driver late Saturday night.

The victim was making a delivery shortly before midnight in the 100 block of South Giles Street when he met by a female as he approached the residence, according to Bridgeton authorities.

As she was counting her money, two males attacked the driver. He ran back to his car, but was pulled from the vehicle by three more male assailants, police said.

All five males assaulted the victim with hands, feet and a large stick as they demanded money, police said.

The driver was able to escape and his assailants made off with four pizzas and soda.

The female fled on foot east on South Giles Street toward Taylor, while the five others, carrying the pies, headed north on Giles.

The driver was taken to Inspira Medical Center Vineland for treatment of injuries that included "an extremely swollen eye" and cuts to the back of his head.

Police did not indicate if the assailants were adults or juveniles.

The female is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, with a thin build and wearing all black clothing. One of the males is described as 6 feet tall, with a thin build and wearing all black clothing. Detailed descriptions of the other assailants were not provided.
