Berwyn man, 60, charged with possession of 6 different narcotics

A Riverside officer searched the vehicle of a man who was driving without a license and found six different narcotics, crack pipes and syringes, officials said.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, the officer spotted a vehicle with an expired registration tag near Ogden Avenue and Lionel Road. When he stopped and approached the vehicle, the driver was sweating profusely and seemed nervous, officials said.

Once the officer asked the driver to get out of the vehicle he saw white powder throughout the car and drug paraphernalia. The driver did not have a license and he Maksibet was arrested, officials said.

A search of the vehicle yielded more narcotics including rock cocaine, tramadol, alprazolam, Dilaudid, clonazepam and diazepam. The driver, identified as James A. Doran, did not have a prescription for the pills, officials said.

"When the officer pulled over Mr. Doran, he began to throw the narcotics throughout the vehicle. He was trying to destroy the evidence including powdered cocaine, rock cocaine and by throwing prescription pills throughout the car," stated Riverside police Chief Thomas Weitzel in a news release.

Police also discovered measuring scales, crack pipes and syringes. A replica paintball gun, a mask and more than 40 power tools were found. Doran told officers he did not know where the tools came from or why they were inside his car, officials said.

Doran, 60, of the 2100 block of Grove Avenue, was charged with six counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license, officials said.

Riverside police seized drills, sanders, a toolbox, air gun, flashlights, gloves, masks, power cords, air handling devices and other equipment from Doran's vehicle. Doran is now under investigation for possible burglaries in Riverside and other western suburbs, officials said.

Officials said he has been arrested 47 times, and has seven burglary convictions and nine theft convictions.
