In Amazon rainforest forest, environmental organisations are active, among or things because of continued deforestation. According to Brazilian government figures, however, it is now back. Thus, between August 2016 and July 2017 about 6,600 square kilometers of forest were cut down – a decrease of about 16 percent compared to previous year. The non-governmental organisation Imazon suspects that less is being cut down mainly because meat prices are declining and refore less grazing land is needed for livestock farming.
