Girl, 11, seriously injured in DWI accident, police say

NEWFIELD -- A Gloucester County woman has been charged with driving while intoxicated after a motor-vehicle accident late Friday left an 11-year-old girl in the hospital, according to borough police.

It was just before 11:45 p.m. when Newfield police were dispatched to North West Boulevard at Sandy Drive for a report of a motor-vehicle crash. There, officers found that a 2016 Dodge minivan had apparently struck a utility pole.

The 11-year-old passenger was taken to Cooper University Hospital, in Camden, to be treated for "serious" injuries, police said early Saturday morning.

Township votes to join county EMS

The minivan's driver, 35-year-old Williamstown woman Mayra A. Guardado was arrested and charged with DWI, assault by auto and endangering the welfare of a child among "numerous" other motor vehicle offenses, police said. Guardado was processed and released on a court summons.

Newfield police were assisted by the Franklin Township Police Department, Newfield Fire Department, Malaga Fire Department and Gloucester County EMS.
