Little League coach accused of sexually assaulting 2 boys

A 46-year-old man was charged Thursday morning in a 2007 sexual assault of two boys he met while coaching Little League baseball in the Brighton Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Carmelo Ramirez, of the 4100 block of South Maplewood Avenue, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault of a child under the age of 13 and predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13, police said.

Ramirez was identified as the person who sexually assaulted the boys between March 1 and Oct. 31, 2007.

While holding a position of trust as a Little League baseball coach at the Brighton Kelly Park, Ramirez gained the victims' trust by purchasing them gifts and taking them on outings, police said. Once the trust was gained, he brought the boys to his home and assaulted them, police said.

Police said the incident occurred in the same block where Ramirez lives.

He was scheduled to appear Thursday afternoon at a bail hearing.
