HESPERIA >> A man is behind bars after he allegedly dragged a High Desert deputy more than 200 feet with his car Sunday, officials said.

Tristan Wyatt Thorwaldson, 21, was arrested on attempted murder charges after he led deputies on a pursuit through Hesperia and Victorville, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s press release.

The deputy received minor injuries in the incident.

Deputy Jared Rodgers was called to a Chevron gas station at Escondido Avenue and Ranchero Road to check on the welfare of a man in a vehicle, according to officials.

When Rodgers asked the man, later identified as Thorwaldson, to step out of his vehicle, he refused and began to drive away, officials said.

“Rodgers was afraid he would have been run over, so he grabbed onto the driver’s side window frame of the vehicle (as Thorwaldson drove away at a high rate of speed),” the release stated.

Rodgers was able to let go of the vehicle as Thorwaldson slowed to turn a corner, officials sad.

Thorwaldson was eventually arrested in the 12800 block of Sixth Avenue in Victorville.

He was booked at High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, where he is currently being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is expected to be in Victorville Superior Court on Tuesday, booking records indicate.
