Slovakia: Investigators go from contract murder in case of Kuciak

According to the prosecutor's office, the circumstances of the death of Ján Kuciak and his fiancée indicate a contract murder. Nothing was stolen from the scene.

Slovakia: Investigators go from contract murder in case of Kuciak

After murder of Slovak journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée in February, investigating authorities announced new details. The circumstances indicated that this was a contract murder, said prosecutor in Pezinok near Bratislava. Nothing was stolen from crime scene. The act was also already done on 21 February, one day earlier than previously assumed.

The corpses of journalist and his fiancé Martina Kušnírová were discovered in ir house on February 25th. According to investigators, Kuciak was killed in heart with two shots, Kušnírová with a shot in head. So far, 200 witnesses have been identified and questioned, among ors, from environment of two dead.

The public prosecutor did not want to comment on subject. Kuciak had recently researched alleged connections of Italian Mafia to highest levels of politics. Meanwhile, entire government of Prime Minister Robert Fico has resigned.

Kuciak had researched FICOs, results were published after Kuciaks death in Slovak media. After assassination of journalist and his fiancée, re were mass demonstrations in Slovakia.

The Czech journalist Pavla Holcová, who had collaborated with Kuciak, is under police protection. "In general, I am most afraid that assassination of journalists will become something normal," she said on Czech Television Ct. For security reasons, she didn't show her face. She called to continue Kuciaks research. "It is necessary to carry on, it is necessary to finish what we had started with Ján."
