In an earnings report this Thursday, Ubisoft said that “South Park: The Fractured But Whole” has been delayed and is now scheduled to be released during its next fiscal year. This places the release sometime between April 2017 and March 2018, being pushed back from its intended Q1 2017 launch.
“South Park: The Fractured But Whole” was originally scheduled to be released on Dec. 6, 2016. Ubisoft announced back in September that the game’s release was pushed back to the first quarter of 2017 because “the development team wants to make sure the game experience meets the high expectations of fans and the additional time will help them achieve that.”
Now that “The Fractured But Whole” appears to have been delayed once again, Ubisoft hasn’t given a more precise release window other than the next fiscal year. The publisher also didn’t provide an explanation this time around, according to GameSpot.
“South Park: The Stick of Truth,” the previous entry to the franchise, also suffered through multiple delays. The game was supposed to be released during the second half of 2012, but was later pushed back to early 2013 by the franchise’s former publisher, THQ.
Ubisoft stepped in for “The Stick of Truth” in 2013 after THQ’s collapse. The game was then given a December 2013 release date, but was delayed once again for the last time to March 2014, according to Polygon.
Since Ubisoft has delayed “South Park The Fractured But Whole,” the publisher has revised its sales forecast for the current fiscal year which ends on March 31. The company now expects full-year sales to be between $1.54 billion and $1.59, which is down from its previous range of $1.7 billion and $1.78 billion.
Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot also teased that the company will be releasing multiple games for the Nintendo Switch for this year. However, Guillemot also said that it will now focus on its existing brands rather than releasing new IPs.
During the earnings call, the CEO also gave an update on the film adaptation of “The Division.” He says that the film is on its way with the first part of script currently being written. However, “The Division” movie has yet to be given the green light as of late.
