Term limits needed to 'drain the swamp' in D.C. | Letter

Congress is broken and George Washington warned of this day. Our first president was the only president not affiliated with any political party. His farewell address to the nation warned of the ultimate divisiveness of two-party politics short of an effective third party. He also stated that being an elected official was a privilege and not a career move.

George easily could have sat for a longer term, but he forced the first peaceful transition of power as he believed fervently in the need to return politicians to their plowshares. The spectacle on TV these days stands as testament that career politicians are interested only in their own self interests. I never believed in term limits, but now I do.

It is time to limit House members and senators to two terms, just like the president.  It is time to drain the swamp as our president has stated. Supreme Court justices and other federal judges should be forced to retire at 65.
