The wife of the Los Angeles Police Department officer killed in a fatal New Year’s Day crash in Simi Valley was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter Thursday, authorities said.

Alayna Monroe, 25, of Simi Valley was taken into custody at 9 a.m. for allegedly having more than the legal limit of alcohol in her system at the time of the crash, the Simi Valley Police Department said in a statement.

Monroe’s wife, LAPD Officer Heather Monroe, was off duty when she was killed in the Jan. 1 crash.

The investigation was referred to the Ventura County District Attorney’s office for review, officials said.

Monroe was being held at the Ventura County Main Jail.
