Five people who had left a Sonoma County courtroom Tuesday with instructions from a judge not to drive or risk violating court orders got into their vehicles and drove off – followed by Santa Rosa police officers.

Officers had followed nine people from court to see what they would do. Four acted legally, getting a ride or using alternative transportation, said Santa Rosa police Sgt. Summer Black in a press release.

The five who drove off were stopped by police and arrested for violating the Casino Siteleri court order. They weren’t taken to jail but were given a citation to appear in court. They also had to park their cars and find a ride or a driver with a valid license, said Black.

Santa Rosa police driving enforcement efforts routinely include courthouse operations involving drivers with suspended or revoked licenses or who have no license. Drivers caught violating the court order face additional fines, possible jail time and longer license restrictions.
