Voorhees High School Education Foundation seeks members

GLEN GARDNER - The Voorhees High School Education Foundation, started in 2012 by a group of parents, is seeking new members.

The current members have students who are graduating or have graduated, and are no longer going to volunteer with the foundation, according to a news release.

As a result, this will leave the foundation with no one to continue in the oversight and guidance.

Since 2012, the foundation raised over $100,000, the funds going toward scholarship awards, as well as purchasing theatrical drapes, a Yeti Cooler for the Science Department, an upright exercise bike, 3D printer, document cameras, set design for the school's television studio, robotics kits, and interactive learning center and Stand2Learn desks.

An all-volunteer staff donates an hour or two a month to manage the foundation. The goal of the foundation was to bring together students, parents, alumni, small businesses, corporations and community members to create and enhance educational opportunities at Voorhees High School, which are not included in the school budget, according to the news release.

The foundation has worked to build relationships between the school and the business community through cooperative events and programs, it was stated. The foundation, which operates separately from the district, raises money solely to benefit the students and staff of Voorhees High School. Because it is a 501c3 non-profit, all donations are tax deductible.

Those who would like to become involved can email vhsedfoundation@nhvweb.net or contact Principal Ron Peterson at rpeterson@nhvweb.net indicating your interest and providing your name, contact number and email address. Contact information will be shared with those individuals currently on the foundation.
