2 injured in 3 accidents in Clinton Township, police report

CLINTON TWP. - Two people were injured in two separate car accidents on Saturday, police said.

A 63-year-old township resident told police he swerved to avoid a deer at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday while driving on southbound Route 31, striking a guardrail at the intersection of Allerton Road East.

There were no reported injuries, but his 2005 Acura had to be towed from the road. Police issued him motor-vehicle summonses for leaving the scene of a motor-vehicle crash, failure to report a motor-vehicle crash and careless driving.

A second accident on Saturday, at 11 a.m., involved a 2010 Honda Odyssey driven by a 45-year-old township man who struck a 2010 Toyota RAV4 driven by a 52-year-old township woman on Center Street at the intersection with Route 31 South, police said.

The woman suffered minor injuries. No summonses were issued and both vehicles were driven from the scene, police said.

Police also responded to an accident at 7 a.m. on Jan. 26 on eastbound Route 22 near the entrance to Exxon Research.

A 2001 Ford F30 driven by a 51-year-old Clinton resident was slowing when it was struck from behind by a behind by a 2014 Honda Civic driven by a 19-year-old Branchburg woman, police said.

The Clinton man suffered minor injuries and the Honda had to be towed from the scene. The Branchburg woman was issued a motor-vehicle summons for careless driving and the man was issued a motor-vehicle summons for driving an expired vehicle.
