CAF is awarded a contract for more than 600 million for the new train fleet of the Dutch operator NS

The Dutch operator NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen), the company that manages commuter and intercity services of the Dutch rail network, has awarded CAF a contract worth more than 600 million euros for the supply of its new fleet of double-decker trains for to intercity services.

This new contract continues the previous supply project for 206 SNG-Civity trains for commuter services, the last units of which are currently being delivered by CAF, as reported by the company to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).

Specifically, the contract covers the supply of 30 four-car units and 30 six-car units, as well as technical support for their maintenance, an activity that will be carried out by NS itself.

The volume of the recently signed contract exceeds 600 million euros, an agreement that includes additional contracting options for more units that would increase said amount.

This project is part of the plans that NS is currently carrying out to renew its current fleet of double-decker units, and at the same time increase its service capacity for the coming years.

The first units are expected to begin operating in 2028 on the Intercity routes that cross the entire country, with the possibility of implementing some of the unit expansion options and incorporating versions of the train that can make cross-border routes to other countries. like Germany and Belgium.

In 2014, CAF signed its first contract with NS, which included the manufacture of 118 commuter trains for the Civity platform and which was later extended by 88 additional units at the end of 2018, becoming due to the relevance of the client and its volume. , close to 1,000 million euros, in one of the most significant contracts signed by CAF in Europe.
