MADRID, 13 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Choosing the cheapest gas station to refuel during these first weeks of September can mean a saving of up to 24 euros per 60-liter capacity tank, according to the National Association of Automatic Service Stations (Aesae) after comparing the highest price and the lowest offered by service stations in each province.

The analysis has been carried out based on the prices published in the Gas Station Geoportal of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

The savings vary depending on the territories analyzed. Málaga is the province of the Peninsula that has the greatest difference between the most expensive gas station and the cheapest, with a difference of 39 cents, which represents a saving of 23.40 euros for a 60-liter gasoline tank.

On the other hand, in the case of diesel, the province that shows the greatest difference is Madrid with 41 cents, which represents a saving per tank of 24.6 euros.

In gasoline, after Malaga, there are Barcelona and Castellón (38 cents) and Alicante (37 cents) as provinces that present a greater difference. This represents a saving of 22 euros per deposit.

In diesel, after Madrid, are Valencia and Badajoz with a difference of 39 and 38 cents, respectively.

On the opposite side of the table is Pontevedra, where there is a difference of 14 cents in gasoline and 15 cents in diesel, between the most expensive gas station and the cheapest.

Both Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife are the provinces that present the greatest difference between the cheapest and the most expensive gas station.

In gasoline, Las Palmas has a difference of 48 cents, while in Tenerife it is 46 cents. This means, for a 60 liter tank, a saving of almost 28 euros and 27 euros per tank, respectively. Unlike diesel, the positions vary. Tenerife is the one with the greatest difference with 46 cents, compared to the 43 cents that Las Palmas has. The savings for a 60-liter tank amount to 27 euros and 25 euros respectively.

"In a context where we are once again approaching last year's highs in prices, it is necessary to bet on competition and transparency. Automatic gas stations are working to offer the lowest prices and help drivers on this September slope. This policy of low prices is more evident when the price of fuel rises," explains Aesae.

The employers' association of automatic gas stations affirms that the main reason for this price difference is the lower cost structure that automatic stations have compared to traditional stations.

Furthermore, they emphasize that these types of gas stations have the freedom to choose the product from the wholesaler, approved by the authorities, who offers the best price, passing these savings on to the consumer.

According to the latest study on automatic gas stations presented a few months ago, these types of gas stations already account for almost 20% of the market, and thanks to the competitive pressure they generate, they help lower the price in the areas where they are implemented.

Although automatic stations are a model that is booming in Spain, there are still obstacles on the part of the Administration for their implementation. Thus, the Association denounces that the limitations placed on them are "arbitrary" and do not respond to the general interest.
