Deputies believe they may have found the remains of a 92-year-old woman who hasn’t been seen since Monday.
Someone asked that the Lake County Sheriff’s Office do a well-being check for Rubye Harrison James, agency spokesman John Herrell said.
James lives alone in a home on Edgewood Road near Leesburg and hadn’t been seen since Monday, he said.
When deputies responded to her home Wednesday night, she wasn’t there and her car was missing.
Herrell said the circumstances were “suspicious.”
Hours later, deputies found the car on Snow Place near a mobile home park just off of East Dixie Avenue and U.S. Highway 441, he said.
Sheriff’s Office police dogs also found what appears to be a shallow grave with human remains in a nearby wooded area, he said.
Herrell said they believe the remains are James’ but are waiting for officials to examine and identify them.
