The company announced Thursday that its stores will stop offering single-use plastic bags, starting in September, in an effort to reduce over-packaging.

"Our ambition is to optimize our packaging and printed matter by reducing their use, by designing them in an optimal way, by choosing eco-responsible materials and by facilitating their recovery and recycling", explained Marie-Claude Bacon, Vice-President of Business public and communications at METRO.

According to Ms. Bacon, this decision “will make it possible to avoid the circulation of more than 330 million plastic bags annually”.

A leader in the fields of food and pharmacy, METRO is affiliated with Super C, Jean Coutu and Brunet.
