 Evanston police: Skokie man shot while sitting in his vehicle

Evanston police are investigating reports of a man getting shot before dawn Monday morning in the 2100 block of Darrow Avenue, police said in a news release.

Police responded about 1:10 a.m. to reports of shots fired, according to the news release. Officers did not find anyone in the area, but were told that someone with a gunshot wound had arrived at Evanston Hospital for treatment.

Police headed to the hospital and found a 24-year old Skokie resident with a gunshot wound.

He told officers that he was sitting in a rental car on Darrow Avenue when an unknown person shot him in the wrist, according to the release.

His injuries are not considered life threatening, police said.

The victim could not describe the alleged shooter, police said.

Officers saw several bullet holes on both sides of the car the man was in and found six shell casings, both 9mm and .40 caliber, according to the release.

Police ask that anyone with information call Evanston police at 847-866-5000 or use Text-A-Tip at 274637 and enter EPDTIP in the message with the tip information.
