Four people were arrested Friday in connection with a home invasion in North Riverside, police said.

According to a news release from the North Riverside Police Department, officers were notified at 8:45 a.m. of a possible burglary in progress in the 2200 block of Northgate Avenue in the western suburb.

Officers arrived and saw four male suspects exiting the home. The four were ordered to stop, but they fled. During a foot pursuit, officers heard a gunshot, according to the news release.

Officers from Riverside, Berwyn, Lyons, Forest Park, Broadview, the Cook County sheriff's office and Brookfield Zoo assisted North Riverside police in the pursuit. The four were taken into custody "within a short period of time, and several firearms were recovered," police said.

One officer was injured when he fell during a foot chase. No other injuries were reported.

No charges had been filed as of mid afternoon. An investigation of the incident was continuing, police said.

Police believe the home was targeted by the suspects and that residents in the area are not in danger.
