A 15-year-old girl from Gary who was the subject of an Amber Alert this week has now been charged with stabbing her mother to death, according to police.

The girl is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her mother, 34-year old Jamie Garnett, police said.

The girl had been reported missing Monday, and police said at the time that she may have been in "extreme danger."  She was located on Tuesday and, on Thursday, appeared in Lake County, Ind. juvenile court on the murder charges.

The prosecutor's office said it was seeking a waiver to move the case to adult court. A hearing on the request is scheduled for April 12.
