LODI - A Facebook user told police one of his social media 'friends' tried to extort $3,500 after convincing him to take a photo of his penis, which the 'friend' then threatened to post on the Internet.
The victim told police he accepted a friend request last Thursday from a female he did not know.
"She requested the victim to send naked pictures of himself on several occasions," Lodi Police Capt. Joseph Quatrone wrote in a report.
"The victim stated he was apprehensive about doing this until the [alleged blackmailer] appeared naked and asked him again," Quatrone wrote.
At this point, the victim exposed his genitals for the Facebook friend, Quatrone said in the report.
A short time later, the suspect called the victim and threatened to post a photo of his genitals on the Internet unless he paid her $3,500, police said.
The victim told the alleged extortionist he did not have that much money.
The alleged blackmailer then asked for $500, police said.
The victim refused to pay and instead went to Lodi police headquarters to report the incident. Police said the victim has agreed to sign a complaint for prosecution if the blackmailer is identified.
