Man in crisis in Gaspésie: detonations were heard in the house

A major intervention to obtain the peaceful surrender of a man in crisis in the Pointe-à-la-Garde sector has occupied the authorities for more than 10 hours, in Gaspésie.

The event began around 9:50 p.m., Wednesday evening, on Perron Boulevard (route 132), in this small municipality located south of Gaspésie. A man in crisis who makes threats is barricaded in his residence, where he is alone.

In the circumstances, neighbors were evacuated as a preventive measure. Explosions were also heard in the man's home, said Claude Doiron, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

However, we do not yet know the origin of these detonations and we do not know whether the man in question is actually armed.

“We are trying to obtain his voluntary surrender. No one has been injured so far in this intervention, ”said Mr. Doiron.

Route 132 has been completely closed to traffic between Chemin Saint-Antoine and Rue de l'Église since 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

No bypass is accessible in the sector, unless you cross the entire Gaspé Peninsula by route 299 and route 195.
