Man kicks, spit on officers after traffic stop, cops say

HOLMDEL -- Cops arrested a 48-year-old township resident Saturday after he kicked an officer into a patrol car during a traffic stop, police said.

Officers stopped David P. Pagoumian around 10:45 p.m. near Laurel Avenue and Stevens Drive for driving a white Range Rover erratically, Holmdel police Lt. Michael Pigott said.

During the stop, Pagoumian mentioned having weapons and talked of shooting the officers and fighting them, Pigott said.

Police had Pagoumian step out of the Range Rover to do a DWI test, Pigott said. Outside the vehicle, Pagoumian kept assuming a fighting stance and continued to threaten officers he would fight them, Pigott said.

Officers placed Pagoumian in handcuffs. As an officer searched Pagoumian, he thrust his legs at the officer and knocked him into a police car, Pigott said. Pagoumian was then placed in the back of a cop car.

On the way to police headquarters, Pigott said Pagoumian continued to threaten to fight officers. He then attempted to spit at an officer during a breathalyzer test and shouted curses back at the headquarters, Pigott said.

Pagoumian was taken to Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel for an evaluation.

Pagoumian was charged with making terroristic threats, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault on a police officer, throwing bodily fluids at a police officer and other offenses related to driving while intoxicated.

He was released and given a summons to appear at a later court date.
