Man passes out drunk behind wheel 3 times in 9 days, cops say

A Lower Saucon Township man was jailed this week after passing out behind the wheel, and getting arrested on suspicion of driving drunk, three times in nine days, according to township police.

Kevin Sobol, who turned 59 last month, of the 3600 block of Drifting Drive, was taken into custody for warrants in the three incidents Wednesday and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail, police said.

Homicide, DUI charges follow Route 22 crash

Police described the three incidents as follows:

At 12:57 a.m. Jan. 21, Sobol was found asleep at the wheel in the 3600 block of Lower Saucon Road, with the vehicle in gear and his foot on the brake. Police found an open can of beer in the center console. Sobol failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, also charged with an open-container violation.

At 11:28 p.m. Jan. 22, police responded again to the report of a driver asleep at the wheel in the area of Lower Saucon and Wassergass roads, and found it was Sobol. Again he failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the county DUI center.

At 6:25 a.m. Jan. 30, a call for an unconscious male driver at a stop sign led police to Sobol, asleep at the wheel with his vehicle in gear and his foot on the brake, this time at Apple Street and Mockingbird Hill Road. He smelled of alcoholic beverages and had a beer in the center console. He failed sobriety tests and was taken to the DUI center for the third time in nine days in Lower Saucon.
