Man sought in Denver explosives case arrested at LAX hotel

A Denver man was arrested at a Los Angeles International Airport hotel today, a day after law enforcement found unexploded explosives left behind at the Colorado hotel where he was staying, according to news reports.

Adam Hayat, an American citizen of Pakistani descent, was found with knives after apparently flying to L.A., potentially following an ex-girlfriend, ABC News reported. The explosives were found at a Sheraton Hotel in downtown Denver.

An FBI spokeswoman in Los Angeles said she could not comment on the arrest.

“A subject is in custody and is expected to be in court (Friday,)” when more information will be released, spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

A Denver ABC affiliate reported that it had “confirmed through a highly credible senior U.S. official source that Hayat was an emotionally disturbed soldier with PTSD.”

Authorities were alerted to Hayat’s whereabouts after he left Denver without paying for the hotel room, the station reported.

Police found and arrested Hayat at a Holiday Inn on La Cienega Boulevard in Westchester.

ABC reported that Hayat is a U.S. military veteran who served in Iraq. About five years ago, he sent a letter to the Veterans Administration complaining he wasn’t being listened to, ABC News reported.
