Muslim, Jewish women to hold vigil on Trump travel ban

BRIDGEWATER - Muslim and Jewish Women from Hunterdon and Somerset counties will hold a Unity Vigil on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church in Martinsville to protest the travel ban against Muslims, according to a news release by the Raritan Valley Chapter of Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom.

The vigil is one of 100 scheduled to be held across the country to protest unjust policies, the release stated.

The women are calling for prayer and meditations of courage to resist discriminatory policies. They will lead a unity vigil to raise voices in prayer and song in an effort to create an atmosphere that welcomes diversity and urge community leaders and elected official to promote a climate of acceptance, according to the release.

"We must draw strength from each other and resist those who seek to divide us by party, demonize our beliefs, silence our memory, and paralyze us with fear," said the release.

Speakers at the event will include Pamela D'Amato and Nancy Gorrell from the Raritan Valley chapter of Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom; Yaser El Menshawy, Imam and Board President of Islamic Center of Hunterdon County in Flemington; and Rabbi Ron Isaacs, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Sholom in Bridgewater.
