N.J. man swindles $538 gift card in shoplifting scheme, cops say

A Newark man returned items he never bought at Wal-Mart to gain $538 worth of store credit, Colonial Regional police said.

Curtis Anthony Walton, 53, shortly before 5:40 p.m. Jan. 30 entered the Wal-Mart, 3722 Easton-Nazareth Highway, Lower Nazareth Township.

He then was seen by a Wal-Mart loss prevention officer removing the items from a shelf and then heading to the customer service counter.

Nazareth-area teen had stolen gun at cemetery, cops say

Walton obtained a store gift card for $538 before being stopped by the officer. Officers responded to the store and arrested Walton.

Walton on Jan. 30 was arraigned before District Judge John Capobianco on theft charges. The judge set bail at 10 percent of $7,500.

In lieu of bail, Walton was sent to Northampton County Prison, where he remained Tuesday.
