One lane of Laurel Canyon Blvd. reopened after sinkhole-related closure

Officials on Monday morning reopened a single lane of Laurel Canyon Boulevard in both directions in Studio City after the roadway was shut down due to a 20-foot sinkhole on Friday.

Los Angeles Department of Transportation spokesman Bruce Gillman confirmed the partial opening of the roadway on Monday morning but added it would be closed again from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. to likely install a pipe bypass but he did not immediately have more information.

“Traffic officers will be out supporting the closure,” Gillman said.

On Sunday, the goal was to open one lane of Laurel Canyon Boulevard between Moorpark Street and Valley Spring Lane in each direction on Monday, said Gary Lee Moore, city engineer for the city of Los Angeles.

Woodbridge Street east of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, where the sinkhole was located, also remained closed — and was expected to be for weeks — as crews worked on the repairs, he said.

The sinkhole basically swallowed two vehicles on Friday during a large storm.
