SSE Renewables, part of the SSE energy group, has begun the construction of its first onshore wind farm in Spain, called 'Jubera', of about 64 megawatts (MW) and located in La Rioja, as reported by the company this Monday.

The company has explained that it is currently developing a portfolio of 320 MW of projects in the "advanced" phase of development in Spain as part of a secured portfolio of 2.4 gigawatts (GW) of wind and onshore solar projects throughout southern Europe. .

Specifically, 11 Nordex wind turbines will be installed at the 'Jubera' onshore wind farm. Once completed, the park will generate enough low-carbon renewable energy to power approximately 55,000 homes annually and will offset nearly 34,000 metric tons of carbon from electricity generation annually.

The company anticipates that the wind farm will be operational for 30 years, while it has detailed that the construction of 'Jubera' has begun with civil engineering works and is scheduled to be completed within two years, before its commissioning. March at the end of 2025.

SSE Renewables expects the project to create more than 200 direct and indirect full-time jobs.

The director of development and construction for Southern Europe at SSE Renewables, Ángel Hernández, has indicated that this is an "important" moment for SSE Renewables, as it begins construction of its first onshore wind project in Spain, while at the same time explained that this is the company's second onshore wind project in southern Europe that enters the construction phase.

For his part, the general director of development in Spain of SSE Renewables, Juan Barreiro, has pointed out that they are "very satisfied" to be able to start the construction of their first renewable energy project in Spain, highlighting that the start of the construction of this wind farm in Santa Engracia del Jubera is a "very important milestone" for the company in Spain.
